About Silkeborg Uldspinderi
Silkeborg Uldspinderi has roots reaching back to the 1940s. It is a family-owned company that has so far been run by the same family for three generations. In 2017, the current owner, Jesper Castillo Olsen, bought the wool mill from his father and brother.
Our third-generation owner and new initiatives
The third-generation owner of Silkeborg Uldspinderi, Jesper Castillo Olsen, took over the company with a vision of pairing the company’s unique knowledge of wool with a stronger emphasis on design. Since 2017, Silkeborg Uldspinderi has adopted a new approach to design, and in recent years the company has established collaborations with talented Danish designers. These design collaborations are based on mutual respect between the designer and Silkeborg Uldspinderi and the ambition of combining our unique knowledge of wool with the designer’s grasp of colours and design.
We are passionate about wool
At Silkeborg Uldspinderi, we are passionate about quality and known for our in-depth knowledge of wool and alpaca. Product quality always comes first, and design comes second. No design is ever not put into production until we have assured it meets our exacting quality standards. We use fibres from sheep and alpacas that live in their natural habitats. Alpacas live in the Andes Mountains, where they are captured for the shearing once a year and then set free again. Even if it may sound harsh, there are no farmers to feed and water the animals, as they find their own food in the wild – that is the only way for them to have a free and natural life.
